ASSESSMENTS: Beginning in September 2009 we will be rolling out Information Literacy Assessments to all grades and departments. Sometimes, as with freshmen social studies classes, you may be required to complete an assessment at school or home. At other times, you may just want to test your knowledge and sharpen your researching skills. Ultimately, we will use these assessments to help us better prepare you to swim through the ocean of information that you will be immersed in whether you like it or not.

MISSION: "The mission of the [Bunnell] library media progam is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information." (Information Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs.) Our goal is to provide our students and faculty with information skills, print and online resources which support the successful completion of school projects and meet their information needs.

GOALS: The aims and objectives of the Bunnell High School library media center program are:

  • to select and acquire a wide range of materials in various media
  • to manage the resources effectively and actively promote their use
  • to support the work of teachers
  • to help train students in information-seeking skills
  • to evaluate developments in library and information service and to update library staff skills to meet the changing needs of users

ACCEPTABLE USE of the Library

Discussions should take place before entering the library or as part of a lesson led by Mrs. Hubler or your classroom teacher. Talk should be work-related. Food and drink are not allowed in the library. Personal listening devices (CD players, IPods, MP3 players et al.) may not be used during school hours and will be confiscated and delivered to the appropriate administrator. Cell phones are to be switched off. Cell phones will be confiscated and delivered to the appropriate administrator.

COLLABORATION with departments and staff

Library support should be collaborative. The librarian and teacher are a team and may well share the planning and preparation of approaches to lessons, the purchase and withdrawal/disposal of resources, and the encouragement of individual pupils.

Scheduling must be done in person and must be accompanied by a lesson/unit plan to enable us to suggest resources both print and online and possible information literacy tie-ins.

Help in encouraging students to return overdue books, in treating the library with respect and in the promotion of reading for pleasure is always appreciated. We would also like to see staff in the library if for no other reason than to preview new items.
